Just south of Auckland on the shores of the Hauraki Gulf is a farm unlike any other in New Zealand. Here Clevedon Buffalo Co., owned and operated by Richard and Helen Dorresteyn, farm 150 head of buffalo for their porcelain white milk. Together they produce award winning fresh buffalo mozzarella, yoghurt, marinated cheese and ricotta. A first for NZ, the companys’ buffalo cheese and yoghurt have won multiple gold medals and awards at New Zealand’s national cheese and artisan awards.
Pure white buffalo milk is A2 and contains significantly more protein and calcium than cows’ milk. Although higher in fat it has roughly half the cholesterol of cows’ milk. Those who are intolerant to cows’ milk products often find buffalo milk readily digestible.
